This scarf has a deconstructed, modern look. Loosely knit "patches" of cream provide the right amount of warmth for the season. The approximate 4 ft. length is plenty to play with the newest styles in scarfdom.  Machine wash cold. Lay flat to dry.

Playing With Scarves

I am a scarf making machine these days.  They are fun, quick, and stylish.  I am loving all the variation of ways to wear them.  I did a search for "how to tie a scarf" - way too many to view!  Martha has a few of the basics.

 

Modeled using my new loosely knit deconstructed scarf.  I love the result of using the big needles (35's).  It gives so much texture.  And, a plus for us Houstonians, it's not quite as hot as the tighter knit.  Although I must say that this morning is quite cold and windy.  I've been wanting to wear it, but it's been in the 80's for so long that I had almost given up hope.  So while the weather is in the 50's, I'll be sporting my new scarf.  Gotta take these chances as they come! 

This one is mine, but I will be adding one to the shop on Monday!

Patchy

New deconstructed...

 

It looks like patchwork and is more playfull than the red/gold one.  Next, I'm trying one with bigger needles.  Oh, and speaking of patchwork scarves, take a look at the fun ones Meg made.  I just love them!

Earthtones

Did I not give this one a title?  It has one now.

 

I love working with lumpy/bumpy yarn.  I made some scarves last year with a solid version and have been wanting to do more ever since.  It's easy to work with and it has lots of yummy texture.  I only use one strand, so there's lots of see-through-ness to it.  It gives warmth without being too hot.

The Yellow Brick Road

This was my first time to go to the quilt festival, and it was quite overwhelming.  Looking at all those quilts so intricately done was amazing!  The amount of time they must have taken! 

The vendor section was no less amazing - miles and miles of them.  I got a few fat quarters to use for binding some kitchen towels, some new Vintaj pieces that I've been eying, and my prized purchase...

My feet hurt!

New Colorway

Don't you just love the fall color changes in the fashion world?  I am so taken with the purples that are out there.  I'm not much a purple fanatic, but I could easily become one. 

 

In light of the purples, I am starting a new deconstructed scarf.  Black is a must.  Plus I'll throw in a bit of lime green and fushia to liven it up.

Knitting Fool

I finished the scarf before I got sick, I just didn't have the energy to post about it.  After I got all of my problems figured out, I was able to go go go!  Nothin' like watching Snow Dogs while you knit.

 

Now, lest some of you think that this project is not quite finished, I assure you it is!  Normally you weave in the threads where you change colors, but not on this one.  I guess you would call it "deconstructed".  Makes it look funky/trashy, but in a "hip" sort of way.  Oh, and the fringe on the bottom?  Left over silk ribbon.  Gorgeous!

Me time:  I kind of go for that deconstructed look.  It's put together without looking "put together".

Piles O' Yarn

Last weekend, I did some shopping with my mom and sister.  There was a really cool knitted scarf at Stein Mart.  It had chunks of different colors/fibers.  One of those "I-think-I-can-make-that" kind.  Mom has TONS of odds and ends skeins, so I went hog wild putting together color combos.

I started this one Wednesday.  I am a novice and haven't knitted since last fall, so I had forgotten how to cast on.  Once I got that going, it went fairly easy UNTIL it was time to change colors.  I had gotten instructions from my mom, but I kept doing it wrong.  Reverse.  Try again.  Nope.  Reverse.  Try again.  Nope.  I have pulled it out so many times I lost count.

The worst part about it is that after the first mess up, I thought it through.  I mean really thought it through, only to mess up the exact same way two or three more times.  I hate that!  Joel probably thought I was crazy because I was talking out loud to myself trying to direct myself through.  Finally I was successful.  I did about three rows of the new color and realized that it was not thick enough.  I needed two strands of yarn.  Oh pooh!  

I ripped it all out and put it away.  Of course the fact that it was after a very busy, long day and almost 11PM when I picked it up couldn't have anything to do with it!  Or could it?
