One Thousand Gifts. I had heard a bit of an interview with Ann Voskamp on Haven Today about her book and put it on my I-should-read-this-sometime list. That was last year. Fast forward to August...
I am in my mom's study editing her Master's thesis when I look up and out of ALL the books in that room (and there are hundreds), I see One Thousand Gifts sitting in a pile. I snatch it up really quick, take it home with me that evening, and finish it in two days. So good!
I've practiced little bits of thankfulness all throughout my life, but this book challenged me to be more deliberate about being thankful. To look for those little gifts that God gives me throughout my day. To take time to enjoy God in each moment, even if some of those moments are ugly beautiful. And so I am starting a journey of gratitude, of chronicling my thankfulness.
I needed a special journal for this new venture. I bought a gridded composition notebook (normally I get lined, but I wanted this one to be different) and pulled out my t-shirt scraps, free motion sewing foot, paintbrushes, stamps, and bleach. Weird combination, I know, but it totally worked for me.
This is what I ended up with. It's the perfect place to store my thankfulness. Why "A Thousand Joys"? Because thankfulness leads to joy, and I'm on my way to one thousand.
