Ready for another way to use bleach to alter fabric? Use a doily as a stencil and spray the bleach over the top. I got this idea from Ashley at Lil Blue Boo, who just happened to be doing a bleach gig on her blog at the time I was working with bleach on my journal cover. Directions HERE. I totally wanted to try the doily stencil but my joy journal was finished.
So I made another journal cover. I didn't quite have enough yardage and pieced together a few scraps with free motion sewing.
My favorite part, besides the doily, is the edge of the pieced part. After rinsing and drying the cover, the edge rolled a little and you can see the dark unaltered line of the fabric peeking through. LOVE!
Ok, I guess everything about this journal cover is a favorite - take a look at the doily on the inside cover. Well, hello there! And how about those big drips of bleach here and there for interest? Ok, truth be told my fine mist spray bottle decided to belch out a big drip. Probably wasn't used to being used that much. One big drip of bleach doesn't look so good, but scatter a few more around and it looks great! Kind of breaks things up. Anyway, I really do like it now even though when it happened I was kicking myself.
Happy, happy, happy bleaching!
