So, anyone else have a pile 'o t-shirts in the giveaway bag? I always seem to have several tees that are on the way out. Instead of donating them, how about repurposing them into ribbon for gift wrap. It's really too easy!
Directions:
Cut the seam along one side of your shirt up to the sleeve (only my shirt didn't have sleeves).
Place the hem of the shirt on a self healing cutting mat. Cut off the hem, then cut the shirt into strips based on how wide you want your ribbon to be. I cut these into 1 inch strips all the way up to the arm pit.
Overlap the ends of your strips and sew them together. I used a contrasting thread, jagged stitching, and left the edges very raw to give it some character. Sometimes I'll cut the threads, but I left them on this one. Character, you know!
Wrap around a gift several times and tie a bow or knot. Mine is on the side.
Pair with some thin hemp
or a different color of ribbon.
"What if I don't have a sewing machine?" Ok, I've got you covered! connect them together this way...
Cut off all seams.
Fold each end over about 1/3 to 1/2 an inch and make a small cut in the center of the fold. Do this to all your strips.
Overlapping two strips, line up both holes.
Taking the end of the strip that is on the bottom of your overlap, poke it through both holes and pull completely through.
Pull both strips gently to tighten. Repeat with all your strips.
Variations:
- After sewing your strips together pull the ends tightly . The knit material will roll in on itself and look more like a cord.
- Attach several different colors of strips together.
